As we reflect on 2025, we are deeply grateful for your generosity, compassion, and belief in our mission that you have shown throughout the year. Because of you, we were able to serve more children, strengthen more families, and deepen our community connections. Your support has shaped our most impactful year yet.
Thanks to your kindness, we delivered 2,110 care packs to children entering care - our highest number since we began in 2018. Included in this number, are 195 emergency packs that you helped provide for children and caregivers facing urgent or crisis situations. You made it possible for over 1,300 children to receive ongoing support throughout the year, including the 580 dedicated caregivers whose resilience continues to inspire us.
This year also highlighted just how powerful this community truly is. We simply couldn’t operate without the 30+ regular volunteers who give their time and heart to our work - one of the many reasons we received this year’s Team Award from Volunteering Waikato. This was complimented by the 15 volunteer corporate groups who showed up over the year to create meaningful impact that extends far beyond the hours they served.
We are continually uplifted by those who donate high-quality pre-loved items. You ensure that children entering and living in care receive beautiful, thoughtful packs that restore dignity, comfort, and joy. And thanks to our partnership with Grin Natural, and their incredible generosity, every child we serve receives quality oral-hygiene products in every care pack they receive.
Because of your belief in growing our reach, we welcomed three Regional Coordinators in Putaruru, Tokoroa, and Waihi. Their leadership is already strengthening our connection to local families, allowing us to respond faster and with greater care. Your support also helped us expand our Caregiver Coffee Groups to 38 this year - double the number in 2024 - offering more opportunities for connection, encouragement, and guidance.
In August, you helped us take a bold step forward as our Board launched The Legacy Project, a capital campaign to secure a permanent home at 118 Fencourt Road. And in October, your generosity opened the doors to the very first family stay at the KIN Retreat - a space that now offers much-needed rest and respite for families who give so much.
Community engagement thrived because of supporters like you. Colour Cambridge - our major fundraising event - celebrated a vibrant second year, raising $37,500. We were uplifted by many independent fundraisers, including the Rotary Cambridge Garden Festival, Oxford Pies and The Breeze Waikato limited edition pie campaign, the Fine Homes Tour - Hamilton, and the Light The World Giving Machine. Every dollar raised translates directly into support for children who need it most.
Your support made it possible for Linda to advocate on behalf of children in care across the region. This year, she spoke to an average of four community groups each month, as well as presenting at the Community Waikato Conference in November - efforts that continue to raise awareness and build stronger networks of support.
Christmas giving reached an all-time high because of your extraordinary generosity. Together, you helped support over 1,850 children this year. We were overwhelmed by the incredible kindness of the community who rallied behind our Christmas campaign - whether by hosting Wish Trees, donating gifts, or donating through our online shop and giving portals, or the groups that volunteered to wrap over 5,000 gifts. Your willingness to give so thoughtfully ensures that every child will feel remembered, valued, and celebrated this Christmas.
As we close this remarkable year, please know that every milestone, every moment of care, and every life uplifted was possible because of you. Your trust, kindness, and belief in this mahi has created a year filled with progress, compassion, and hope.
We are humbled and inspired by the generosity you continue to show.
Wishing you and your loved ones a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Ngā mihi o te Kirihimete me te Tau Hou!
With love,
Linda, Graeme and the whole Kids in Need team

FINE HOMES TOUR - HAMILTON
We were absolutely thrilled to be awarded a donation of $36,755 from The Fine Homes Tour, as one of their three chosen charities for this year’s event.
The Fine Homes Tour is a bi-annual event aimed at giving the public a sneak peak into some amazing homes in Hamilton, while raising funds for local Waikato charities. Since their debut tour in 2003, they have raised nearly $1,000,000.
LIGHT THE WORLD - HAMILTON GIVING MACHINE
The Light the World Giving Machine has returned, this time to Te Awa - The Base in Hamilton, running until 28 December and inviting the community to experience the joy of giving in a simple, tangible way. We are honoured to be selected as one of the beneficiary charities for the second year running, enabling shoppers to purchase items that directly support children in care across our region.
The initiative encourages extraordinary generosity, raises vital funds, and helps shine a light on the needs of the families we serve. We are deeply grateful to everyone who chooses to give through the Giving Machine, which made a tangible, meaningful difference for the children and families we serve.
KIN RETREAT - FIRST STAY
Our first guests to the KIN Retreat - a Nan and her two grandchildren - were welcomed in October and they had an amazing stay. This was their first time away as a family in over 6 years, and they truly enjoyed the experience. Nan commented that the children slept really well, were happy and calmer, and that she felt relaxed and rested. It was so heartwarming to hear the impact of their stay, and it is exactly what Linda and Graeme were hoping to create.
Thanks to Greenlea Foundation Trust and SkyCity Community Hamilton - the Retreat is becoming a reality. Their generosity made the initial setup possible, and SkyCity’s recent commitment is ensuring we can support many more families throughout 2026. Just as caregivers open their hearts and homes to the children they raise, you are opening the door for many more families to enjoy the rest, relaxation, and peaceful break they so deeply deserve.
DEFIBRILLATOR
After some of our team completed a refresher First Aid Course earlier this year, we realised the huge benefit of installing an onsite defibrillator, given the diversity of regular visitors to our site, as well as providing local public access. Thank you to the Rotary Club of Cambridge for answering our call for support to purchase a defibrillator, which has been installed and ready for use (though we hope we don’t need to use it anytime soon!)
Alongside generous initiatives like the defibrillator, we are regularly uplifted by the wider service-club community. We are grateful to the many clubs that provide both hands-on and financial support, enabling us to continue delivering essential care packs and meaningful assistance to children in care across our region. Thank you to Rotary, Kiwanis, Lions, and Freemasons for your ongoing commitment. Your support helps children being raised in care feel seen, valued, and truly supported.
It started in a living room.
One couple. One big idea. One small act of kindness.
Today, Kids in Need Waikato supports over 1,300 children and 560 caregivers every year.
But the buildings that are our heart are not legally our home.
With your help, we want to change that.
Together, we can leave a legacy of care and support that will benefit children for generations to come.
Since launching The Legacy Project in August, we’ve raised $157,810 towards our $2,000,000 goal. You can find out more through the link below.
THANK YOU!
We'd like to thank the following groups for their financial contribution to Kids in Need Waikato (September-December):
We’d like to make a special mention to the individuals and businesses that contribute financially on a regular recurring basis. Their regular giving is more than a gift towards our kaupapa/purpose - it gives us reassurance that we have your backing to continue this important work, and that supporting children in care matters.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?
We welcome donations of preloved and brand new items from Monday 2 February 2026. We truly appreciate the amazing support from our community, and we look forward to welcoming you back to our reorganised Shed next year.
We’ll start reaching out to our caregiver community in February to get their children’s winter needs. New socks, underwear and pyjamas are staple items in care packs, so please donate these items in the new year if you can.
